CSG launches China's largest vehicle-to-grid activity

On March 28, 2025, CSG launched China's first inter-provincial vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interaction initiative, marking a milestone in the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) with the national power system. Spanning 63 cities across Guangdong province, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Yunnan province, Guizhou province, and Hainan province, with more than 100,000 EVs participating, interactive power exceeding 500,000 kWh making it the most extensive V2G activity in China to date.


This initiative tests various V2G application scenarios, including reverse discharge, intelligent and orderly charging, and incentivized off-peak charging. It provides a comprehensive demonstration of V2G technology, business model innovation, and industry collaboration. The program also contributes to deeper integration among stakeholders across the EV and energy value chain, setting a benchmark for large-scale, city-centered, and sustainable vehicle-grid interaction in the future.


As of the end of 2024, China had 31.4 million new energy vehicles and 12.818 million charging facilities nationwide — a year-on-year increase of 49.1%. With more than 10,000 charging service providers, the potential for widespread vehicle-grid interaction is rapidly expanding.


To support this growing ecosystem, CSG continues to improve market mechanisms, fostering a new collaborative model between charging infrastructure and the power grid. Under its "wholesale + retail" market framework, the company has successfully increased engagement from EV owners and charging operators. Some of the operation revenue had been used to subsidize EV owners.


The success of large-scale V2G interaction depends heavily on technological advancements. This initiative employed cutting-edge solutions such as full liquid-cooled supercharging and remote control systems. At the Lianhuashan Supercharging Station in Shenzhen city, Guangdong province, the project recorded a peak discharge power of 1,052 kW, achieving a true megawatt-level V2G breakthrough. It also marked the first time in China that daily V2G reverse discharge exceeded 10,000 kWh.
